TWO SCHOOL students were injured and around 18 narrowly escaped when their school bus overturned after the driver lost balance of the vehicle near Rattewali village, Raipurrani, on Wednesday.

The bus belongs to Litera Heritage School, Kot, near Barwala. The incident happened when the students were being ferried to the school around 8 am. Two  students suffered minor injuries. They were discharged after treatment at Civil Hospital, Sector 6.

Police said that the school bus was being driven by the cleaner instead of the driver.

It is negligence on the part of the school management. Eyewitnesses reported to the police that the school bus was crossing a narrow unmetalled road between the farms. A motorcycle came from the opposite direction and the bus driver lost the balance. Eyewitnesses reported that the bus was being driven at a slow speed which is the reason no major casualty was reported.

A police party headed by the SHO of Chandimandir police station, Inspector Lalit Sharma, rushed to the spot.

“The bus was not driven by the driver. It was the cleaner who was driving the bus and the accident happened while the bike was crossing the road. The road was single lane and only one vehicle at a time could pass through it. The bus overturned and fell to the side of the road where there were bushes. Only two students got injured, others were safe. The injured students were immediately taken to the Sector 6 Civil Hospital,” said Inspector Lalit Sharma, SHO of Chandimandir police station.

The SHO said that no FIR was registered. He added that parents were asked to come to the police station. If they wanted to file an FIR, then it will be done. A DDR was registered at Chandimandir police station.
