Tech News of the Week in India: Krutim, Grok, and GPT get an update, and the improved AI models come with new capabilities, making them some of the most advanced large language models (LLMs) in the world, and Apple sends a warning message and an email to several iPhone users across the world, regarding a possible cyber attack.

    Improved AI models from xAI, OpenAI, Google, and Krutim

    Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro is now available in over 180 countries, and Ola’s Krutim also gets an update, which is now running on the company’s own cloud network. OpenAI also announced GPT-4 Turbo with Vision capability, and Elon Musk’s Grok 1.5 Vision enters the preview phase. These improved AI models offer more capabilities and accuracy than ever before, and on top of that, some of these new models are already rolling out users, most for the paid subscribers.

    Cyber attack on iPhones, users warned

    Apple warns about a possible cyber attack on several high-profile iPhone users, who work in the public domain such as politics and journalism. Earlier this week, Apple warned several iPhone users in India, stating, there was a Pegasus-like cyber attack, and recommended users to put their iPhone into the lockdown mode, if they felt the threat is real to protect the data on their iPhones. In an official email sent to several users, Apple stated that “mercenary spyware attack…is trying to remotely compromise the iPhone associated with your Apple ID.”

    Android 15’s first beta now available for the public

    Google has released the first public beta build of Android 15 for eligible smartphones, which includes new features including an edge-to-edge app with no black bar on the top and bottom of the phone, smooth NFC experience, app archiving, secured background activity, and more. Users with an eligible Pixel smartphone can enrol to text the first public beta of Android 15, available for Pixel 5a, Pixel 6 series and newer models. Android 15 stable version is likely to be released for these devices, possibly in August 2024.

    Meta tests AI features for WhatsApp and Instagram

    Meta is testing generative AI features on its popular platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram. The new generative AI features are powered by Meta’s in-house Llama mode, and the company is also expected to release the next-generation Llama 3 model in the next few days, which is said to be the most capable large language model from the company.
