Punjab Youth Cong general secy arrest: FB post claims he was ‘poisoned’ in custody, Ludhiana police denies

A day after Ludhiana police had arrested Punjab Youth Congress state general secretary Sarvotam Singh alias Lucky Sandhu in an alleged kidnapping and rioting case, a Facebook post purportedly posted from his account claimed that he was administered poison in police custody.

“Youth leader Lucky Sandhu administered poison in police custody. Condition critical,” read the post from Sandhu’s account, and had also had some medical documents uploaded along.

Sandhu is currently in two-day police remand. Refuting allegations, Inspector Inderjit Singh, SHO Sahnewal police station said that Sandhu had complained of “stomach ache” and was taken to hospital for check-up. “His test reports were all fine and was brought back after getting medicines,” said the inspector. He added that the Congress leader was not having access to phone inside lock-up and someone else might have uploaded “misleading post” from his account.

Sandhu has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a witness in an assault case and threatening him at gunpoint. The FIR was registered at Sahnewal police station.

It is for the second time that Sandhu has been arrested. Earlier in April this year, he was booked and subsequently arrested in an extortion case for allegedly making calls to honeytrap rich and influential businessmen of Ludhiana in connivance with “Instagram influencer” Jasneet Kaur of Mohali.

Both brothers were recently elected as office-bearers in Punjab Youth Congress after elections were held in July to elect the new body.
