Last month, Punjab police confiscated 41.66 lakh liters of illegal liquor

Between January 8, when the model code of conduct went into effect in the poll-bound state, and February 8, various enforcement teams seized 41.66 lakh litres of illicit liquor, including 1.42 lakh litres of hooch from Ludhiana and Moga alone, and confiscated unaccounted cash worth Rs 25.63 crore in Punjab, according to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) S Karuna Raju.

Raju said in a statement that up to February 8, surveillance teams had confiscated 41.66 lakh litres of illegal liquor worth Rs 23.70 crore in the state.

Similarly, over the last month, the enforcement wings seized psychotropic drugs worth Rs 314.75 crore and confiscated unaccounted cash worth Rs 25.63 crore, he added.

Raju stated that 3,884 persons have been identified as potential sources of problem, and that preventative action has already been taken against 3,195 of them, while the others will be prosecuted.

He stated that 22,250 checkpoints have been put up across the state as part of failsafe security preparations ahead of the polls.
