How did you Apply?

I printed out the internship form from the KJA site, filled it out, and submitted it along with my results from the last two semesters.

First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, and First Impression

On the first day, we had a self-introduction session with the Academy’s Board of Directors. They gave a brief introduction to the Academy, the internship programme, and later, assignment topics. We were allowed to use the library, which had a huge collection of law books. As an institution that provides training to judges, the Academy has its discipline and wants that professionalism in interns, too.

Main Tasks

On day one, we were assigned an assignment comparing specific Chapters of CrPC and BNSS. After completing that assignment, we were assigned a second assignment: to write an article on a particular topic. As per our request, we were allowed to sit in classes for trainees of Civil Judge Junior Division and District Judge for some days.

Work Environment

We were allowed to access the library, and we were made to sit there. The Board of Directors gave instructions from time to time. They kept a check on us.

Good Things about the Internship

Through this internship, in addition to the learning experience in law, we were able to learn the realities of being a judge, their tasks, and what we learn in law school versus what we have to learn to apply in practice. Apart from this, punctuality and discipline are also needed in this profession.

Bad Things about the Internship

Honestly, there was no downside to the internship.

Monthly Stipend

No stipend

Details about the Accommodation, Commuting to the Office

The Academy will provide no accommodation. We can avail the canteen facilities there. I stayed at Holy Family Convent Hostel (Ladies), only 10 mins (walking) from the Academy.

Anything Else You Want to Share?

I got acquainted with new people who were my co-interns cum roommates. We worked together and helped each other even in technical aspects, using laptops and Google Docs for our assignments. We had working days till Saturday, and we explored places in Kochi on Sundays. The Academy is located away from the central city. So, we took a bus to Aluva metro station and by metro went sightseeing.
