Dr Manoj Durairaj takes over as IACTS president

Well-known heart transplant surgeon Dr Manoj Durairaj has taken over as the 55th president of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgeons (IACTS) on February 11.

This is the highest position a heart surgeon can achieve in his or her career in India. Dr Durairaj was elected by his cardio-thoracic surgical peers from all over the nation in the IACTS elections conducted in 2022.

IACTS executive committee members include Senior Vice President Dr V Devagourou, Junior Vice President Dr Satyajit Bose, Secretary Dr C S Hiremath, Joint Secretary and Treasurer Dr Prabhata Rashmi, Editor in Chief Dr O P Yadava, Junior Past President Dr Lokeshwara Rao Sajja, Senior Past President Dr Z S Meherwal and EC members Dr Alok Mathur, Dr B R Jagannath, Dr Prasanna Simha Mohan Rao, Dr Debasis Das, Dr Siva Muthukumar and Dr Gunturu Varun.

Sharing his vision for the IACTS, Dr Durairaj said he wants the association to become the key opinion leader in matters related to cardiovascular and thoracic sciences in the country. The quality of Indian cardio-thoracic surgeons is world class and the effort will be to increase the visibility of this quality and quantity of work in India and overseas through original research papers, improving data collection and showcasing the surgical excellence on social media platforms, he said.
