Afghan national living in India using fake documents held

THE MUMBAI crime branch arrested a 38-year-old Afghan national who had been staying in the country for the past few years allegedly using false documents. Habibullah Prang (38), resident of Paktiya province in Afghanistan, was living as Zaheer Khan in Wadala area since 2017. Prang had been engaged in the money lending business.

An officer from unit V of the crime branch which probed the case said that they received a tip off about Prang residing in Wadala area using forged documents posing to be an Indian national.

When a police team detained him, he told them that he had come to India in 2007 and left in 2011. He then returned in 2017 and has been living here ever since.

The police found that he had made fake documents and was living as an Indian national. The police were in the process of checking if he had any criminal antecedents and the reason why he returned to Afghanistan after making fake documents here in 2011.

An offence was registered against him under sections related to using forged documents along with sections of the Indian Passport Act and Foreigners Act. He was produced before a court on Thursday and remanded to police custody.
